In short
What does Gardenscape mean by artificial lawns?
Artificial lawns installed on a free-draining base where a real lawn will not thrive, offered on request.
Artificial lawns, where they genuinely make sense
We are a real-lawn-first landscaper, and for most gardens a properly prepared natural lawn is the better answer. But there are situations where an artificial lawn is the sensible choice: deep shade where grass will not thrive, a small space that gets heavy use, a roof terrace or balcony, or a household that simply cannot keep on top of a real lawn. Where that is the case, we install it properly.
The base does the work
A good artificial lawn is all in the base. We build a free-draining, properly compacted and levelled base so water drains away and the surface stays flat and firm, then lay and secure a quality grade of grass with the edges and joints done neatly. Laid on a poor base, artificial grass sags, puddles and looks wrong; laid on the right base, it stays flat, drains and looks tidy for years.
Honest advice first
We will tell you straight whether a real lawn or an artificial one suits your situation, rather than selling you the easy job. For a shady, high-use or hard-to-reach space, artificial can be the right call. For an open garden with reasonable ground, a real lawn is usually better, and we will say so.
