Answer

Do I need planning permission for a patio?

A ground-level patio normally needs no permission, except on designated land or a listed property.

In short

A patio at ground level is normally permitted development and needs no planning permission. It only becomes an issue if it raises ground levels significantly, sits on a listed property, or is on designated land such as the Cotswolds National Landscape, where the rules are tighter. Drainage still matters: keep the run-off on your own land.
