In short
What does Gardenscape mean by bespoke pergolas?
Bespoke timber and oak pergolas, designed for the space and built to outlast a flat-pack.
A pergola built for your garden, not a flat-pack
A bespoke pergola is designed for the space it sits in and built to last for decades, which is a different thing from a flat-pack kit fixed in size and lightweight in section. We build pergolas in timber and oak, sized and detailed for your terrace and your house, on real foundations.
Oak or timber
Material sets the character and the lifespan. Green oak weathers to a silver-grey and lasts for generations, and it suits a period or stone property beautifully. A good, properly detailed softwood is a sound choice at a different budget. We talk you through the trade-offs and specify the timber to the setting and how you want it to look in twenty years.
Span, posts and foundations
A pergola that stays true is engineered, not guessed. The span dictates the post and beam sizes, and the posts need proper foundations so the structure does not sag or move. We size it correctly and set it on foundations that suit the ground, because the parts you do not see keep it standing straight.
Open or louvred
An open pergola frames a space and carries climbing planting; a louvred roof lets you open it to the sky or close it against a shower. We design the roof around how, and how often, you want to use the space, and detail it to sit with the garden. Arrange a consultation and we will design a pergola to suit.

Common questions
Common questions
For longevity and fit, yes. A kit is fixed in size, lighter in section and rarely set on proper foundations, so it moves and ages quickly. A bespoke pergola is sized for your space, set on real foundations and built to last.
Oak weathers to a silver-grey and lasts for generations, and suits period and stone property. A well-detailed treated softwood is a sound choice at a different budget. We talk you through both.
Yes. A louvred roof lets you open the pergola to the sky or close it against a shower. We design the roof around how often you want to sit out under it.
A freestanding pergola within the outbuilding height limits usually does not, but height, position and designated land can change that. We confirm what applies before designing.
