Answer

When should I plant bulbs?

Spring bulbs in autumn (tulips late autumn); summer bulbs in spring after frost.

In short

Plant spring-flowering bulbs such as daffodils, crocus and tulips in autumn, with tulips best left until late autumn. Summer-flowering bulbs such as dahlias and lilies go in during spring once the frost risk passes. Planting at the right time is what gives the best display.
