Cost guide

How much does a driveway cost?

Priced on the surface and, above all, the base, after seeing the ground. Here is what shapes it.

In short

Driveway cost depends most on the surface and the state of the existing base. Resin-bound, block paving, gravel and the rest sit at different points, and the biggest variable is what is underneath: a sound base can often be built on, while a failed one has to be dug out and rebuilt. We price each driveway after seeing the ground, not from a rate.

What changes the price

The factors that move the figure

A driveway is priced on the surface and, more than anything, on what is underneath it. The surface you choose, resin-bound, block paving, gravel, sets one part of the cost; the excavation, sub-base and drainage set the rest, and they determine whether the driveway lasts, especially on clay where a poor base sinks and ruts within a few winters. The single biggest variable is the existing base. A sound one can often be built on, while a failed one has to be dug out and rebuilt, which changes the job considerably. A new vehicle crossover, if you need one, is a separate Wiltshire Council highway

Common questions

Common questions

  • Because a driveway is only as good as what is under it. On clay especially, a poor or shallow base sinks and ruts within a few winters whatever the surface, so the build-up below is where the cost and the longevity sit.

  • No. A new vehicle crossover is a separate Wiltshire Council highways matter, arranged through a council-approved contractor, not part of the driveway.
