Answer

Do I need permission to remove a garden hedge?

Usually no for a garden hedge, unless it is a protected countryside hedgerow or contains a protected tree.

In short

A garden hedge can usually be removed without permission. The exceptions are an important countryside hedgerow under the Hedgerow Regulations, mostly rural field boundaries, and any protected tree within the hedge that has a Tree Preservation Order or is in a conservation area. We check before removing anything significant.
